Four juveniles have been arrested following an attempted armed carjacking in Culver City on March 27, authorities announced Monday.
The incident took place around 5 p.m. on the 6100 block of Sepulveda Boulevard. Culver City police responded to reports of a carjacking attempt involving a group of four male suspects.
According to investigators, the suspects approached a man in his vehicle and attempted to steal it. One of the juveniles reportedly brandished a firearm, demanding the victim hand over the car keys. Meanwhile, the other three suspects surrounded the victim.
The victim allegedly told the suspects that the vehicle did not belong to him, prompting the group to flee on foot southbound along Sepulveda Boulevard.
As officers began canvassing the area, one of the suspects was spotted running toward the 90 Freeway overpass, near Hannum Avenue. Police pursued the suspect and apprehended him after he made movements towards his waistband.
Two additional suspects were found nearby and arrested without incident. The fourth suspect was apprehended shortly after, completing the arrest of all four juveniles.
A loaded firearm, believed to be the one used in the attempted carjacking, was recovered during the investigation. Police confirmed the gun was chambered and ready for use.
The identities of the suspects and the victim have not been disclosed, and further details regarding the suspects’ ages and residences remain limited.
The Culver City Police Department continues to investigate the incident.
