A tragic accident in Midvale on Saturday afternoon left a 17-year-old driver dead and another teenager critically injured after their SUV collided with a parked semi-truck trailer, authorities said.
According to the Unified Police Department, the crash occurred on Fort Union Boulevard as the driver, a Hillcrest High School student, was heading westbound with a 19-year-old passenger.
Preliminary findings indicate the driver attempted to avoid another vehicle, lost control on the slick roadway, and veered into the stationary semi-truck.
Emergency responders pronounced the teen driver dead at the scene, while the passenger was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
“The Unified Police Department expresses its deepest condolences to the family and friends mourning this loss,” the agency said in a statement.
Authorities have not released further details about the crash, and the investigation remains ongoing.
