SALT LAKE CITY— Authorities in Salt Lake City are asking for the public’s assistance in solving a 2022 homicide, releasing new images of a vehicle that may be connected to the case.
The Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) shared the photos, which were taken on January 23, 2022—the same day officers responded to reports of a shooting near 130 South 800 West. When police arrived, they discovered 50-year-old Anetupou Niualiku suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts, she did not survive.
Investigators believe the vehicle seen in the newly released images is a 2011-2013 Hyundai Sonata. However, its license plate remains unidentified.
Investigators Seeking Leads
Detective Michael Ruff emphasized the need for new information that could push the investigation forward.
“We’ve reached a point where we need fresh leads to keep this case moving,” Ruff told ABC4.com. “Someone out there may recognize this vehicle, and even the smallest detail could open new doors for our investigators.”
Public’s Role in Seeking Justice
SLCPD stressed the critical role of community involvement, urging anyone with information—no matter how minor it may seem—to come forward.
“Tips from the public can be instrumental in ensuring justice is served,” the department stated. “If you know anything about this vehicle or the case, your information could make a real difference.”
How to Report Information
Anyone with knowledge of the incident or the Hyundai Sonata in question is encouraged to contact SLCPD at 801-799-3000, referencing case number 22-13510.
As the investigation continues, authorities are hopeful that new leads will emerge to help bring closure to the victim’s family and ensure accountability.
