LAYTON, Utah — A fire broke out at a Layton apartment complex early Sunday morning, causing approximately $150,000 in damage. Investigators believe the blaze may have started from cigarette ashes, though an official cause has yet to be confirmed.
Fire crews from Layton City Fire and Hill Air Force Base Fire responded to reports of a fire on North Hillfield Road around 8:15 a.m. on March 16. Upon arrival, they encountered heavy flames pouring from the lower windows of one of the units in a two-story fourplex. Smoke from the fire was visible from a significant distance, officials said.
Residents evacuated the building before emergency responders arrived, and firefighters quickly worked to contain the blaze. Multiple hose lines were deployed, and the fire was brought under control within 10 minutes. Additional personnel assisted with ventilation, securing a water supply, and ensuring all occupants had safely exited the building.
The Layton Police Department and Davis County Sheriff’s Office provided support by managing traffic in the surrounding area.
According to fire officials, a resident mentioned to Layton police that she had dropped cigarette ashes in a bedroom, which was identified as the fire’s point of origin. No injuries were reported among residents or first responders.
Authorities continue to investigate the exact cause of the fire, and no further updates are available at this time .
