PHILADELPHIA – Despite strong performances from Keyonte George and Kyle Filipowski, the Utah Jazz came up short against the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday night, falling 126-122 for their fifth consecutive loss.
Both George and Filipowski led Utah (15-49) with 25 points each. Filipowski, who tied his career-high, also grabbed seven rebounds and recorded three steals, while George contributed six rebounds and three steals.
On the other side, Lonnie Walker IV and Quentin Grimes powered the 76ers (22-41) to victory with 25 points apiece. Walker delivered a double-double with 11 rebounds and five assists in 34 minutes off the bench. Grimes was efficient from the field, hitting 6 of 13 shots, including 4 of 9 from beyond the arc, and was perfect at the free-throw line, sinking all nine attempts. He also dished out six assists.
Philadelphia led 65-58 at halftime, with Grimes scoring 16 points in the first two quarters. The 76ers maintained their advantage late in the game, with Grimes scoring their final eight points to secure the win.
Utah’s struggles continued as they have now lost seven of their last eight games, including defeats against teams with a combined record significantly below .500.
A late rally by the Jazz nearly shifted the outcome. Filipowski drained back-to-back three-pointers within six seconds, cutting Utah’s deficit to 124-122 with just three seconds remaining. Initially, it appeared that Philadelphia’s Jared Butler turned the ball over with 1.8 seconds left, potentially giving Utah one last opportunity. However, after reviewing the play, officials overturned the call, allowing the 76ers to retain possession. Walker then sealed the victory with two free throws.
Philadelphia snapped a three-game losing streak and secured its first win since edging out the Dallas Mavericks 118-116 on February 4. The 76ers shot 34% from beyond the arc in the contest.
Looking ahead, the 76ers will travel to Atlanta for a Monday night matchup against the Hawks, while the Jazz continue their road trip with a game against the Boston Celtics .
