Storm Brings Snowfall and Road Alerts to Northern Utah
Utah – Northern Utah’s valleys experienced their first substantial snowfall of the season on Saturday, creating potentially hazardous driving conditions across the region.
Salt Lake City recorded just over 1.5 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service, marking the snowiest day of this slow-starting winter. Winter Weather Advisories for the Salt Lake valleys, Wasatch Front, and Cache Valley expired at noon as the snowfall tapered off in the late morning.
While valley floors saw minimal accumulation, benches in Davis and Salt Lake counties reported over 6 inches of snow in certain areas.
Road and Mountain Conditions
A Road Weather Alert remains in effect for northern and central Utah roads through 6 p.m. Saturday. Drivers are urged to exercise caution, as higher elevation areas are experiencing heavy snow.

Solitude and Alta ski resorts recorded significant overnight snowfall, with totals of 17 and 18 inches, respectively. In Big and Little Cottonwood canyons, traction laws are in effect as the Utah Department of Transportation reports heavy snow, increased traffic, and multiple vehicles struggling with conditions and sliding off the roads.
Caution Advised for Drivers
Though the snowfall has subsided, slushy road conditions persist, and temperatures are expected to drop below freezing Saturday night. This could lead to the formation of black ice and icy patches on bridges and overpasses. Drivers are encouraged to slow down and remain vigilant to avoid accidents.
