Utah Cheerleaders Evacuated After ‘Incident’ at National Competition in Texas

DALLAS, TX – Utah cheerleaders and their families faced a chaotic scene on Saturday when an active shooter scare prompted an evacuation at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas.

The incident occurred around 1 p.m. during the 2025 National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) All-Star National Championship, an event that brought teams from across the country, including Utah-based competitors. However, authorities later confirmed that no shooting had taken place.

Panic Erupts Amid False Alarm

According to the Dallas Police Department, initial reports of gunfire sparked widespread panic inside the venue. Investigators later determined that a fight between two individuals led to several metal poles falling, creating a loud noise that triggered a stampede as people rushed to exit the building.

Emergency responders arrived on the scene, and while no shooting was confirmed, several attendees sustained minor injuries in the chaos.

Utah Teams Confirm Safety

Cheer teams from Utah who had traveled to compete reassured the public that all members were unharmed.

“We are relieved that everyone is safe and accounted for,” said Rival Athletics, a cheerleading program based in American Fork, in a statement on social media. The organization also expressed gratitude for the quick response from event staff and law enforcement.

Draper-based Mac’s All-Star Cheer echoed similar sentiments, confirming via Instagram that their athletes and coaches were safe.

Event Disruptions and Response

Following the evacuation, the remainder of Saturday’s competition was canceled as a precaution. A spokesperson for Varsity Brands, the event organizer, assured that security officials were working closely with law enforcement to investigate the incident and ensure safety before resuming the event.

Authorities asked the public to avoid the area while the situation was being assessed. Families of participants were provided a designated location to reunite with loved ones.

The NCA All-Star National Championship was scheduled to continue through March 2. Event officials have not yet announced if adjustments will be made to Sunday’s schedule following the disruption .
