SALT LAKE CITY — The Bountiful girls basketball team continues to dominate, securing its third straight state championship with a hard-fought victory over previously undefeated West High.
The Redhawks triumphed 57-47 at the Huntsman Center on Friday night, handing West its only loss of the season.
Leading the charge for Bountiful was Milika Satuala, who posted 17 points, while Maleah Nelson came through in the clutch with two crucial three-pointers in the fourth quarter, finishing with 15 points.
“It’s an incredible feeling,” Satuala said. “Playing with the same teammates for three years, building our chemistry, and working hard together—it’s all paid off.”
West, down by 11 in the third quarter, mounted a comeback behind Kylee Falatea’s 16 points, along with 11 each from Ale Fonoti and Tiana Fa. The Panthers briefly grabbed the lead in the fourth quarter after a three-point play from Falatea, making it 35-34.
However, Nelson’s pair of deep shots helped Bountiful regain control as the Redhawks closed the game strong, outscoring West 19-11 in the final period.
“Those shots were huge,” Nelson said. “I just kept my focus, and we got it done. Now, we’re aiming for a four-peat.”
Center Taylor Harvey, who contributed nine points and eight rebounds, reflected on the moment. “I’ll never forget this. This feeling will stay with me through college and beyond.”
West struggled from beyond the arc, making just one of ten three-point attempts.
Bountiful wrapped up the season with an impressive 24-2 record, while West finished at 24-1 .
