Man Faces Federal Charges After Firing 40+ Shots at Utah Party

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah – A federal grand jury in Salt Lake City has indicted a man in connection to a shooting at a rural Summit County party in 2024, months after his initial arrest.

Manuel A. Pimentel-Gonzalez, 24, was taken into custody in May 2024 after investigators linked him to the incident, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah.

Details of the Incident

Authorities reported that a dispute broke out at the gathering, and security footage captured Gonzalez retrieving a large firearm from a vehicle. After shouting profanities, he moved out of the camera’s view, followed by the sound of gunfire.

Law enforcement officials later discovered 42 shell casings and four firearms at the scene. Multiple vehicles had bullet damage, and when officers searched Gonzalez’s car in Eagle Mountain, they found similar damage.

Gun Possession Charges

Gonzalez was also found with a gunshot wound that he was allegedly attempting to treat himself. Investigators recovered a firearm in his possession—one he was legally prohibited from owning due to a prior conviction and probation status.

As a result, he now faces federal charges for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. His first court appearance will be scheduled at the U.S. District Courthouse in Salt Lake City.

Legal Disclaimer

At this stage, all charges remain allegations. Gonzalez is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
