PROVO, Utah — Authorities have taken a Provo man into custody following the discovery of a deceased woman inside a shed behind an apartment complex near 700 West and Heather Lane.
Police responded to a 911 call around 4:30 p.m. regarding the body, according to court documents. Upon arrival, officers encountered 53-year-old Arthurio Aurelio Carrion in the front yard, along with two locked sheds in the back of the property.
When questioned about what was inside the shed, Carrion allegedly responded, “A dead body.”
Upon opening the shed, officers noted a strong odor of decomposition. Inside, they found the body of Lesa Hyde, identified as Carrion’s former girlfriend. Authorities said Hyde had been missing since December, with the Springville Police Department previously investigating her disappearance.
“We hadn’t had a reason to search this location before,” said Janna-Lee Holland with the Provo Police Department. “It was the 911 call that led us here.”
A witness told investigators that Carrion had summoned him to the apartment complex a day earlier. During their conversation, Carrion reportedly admitted to having “done something wrong” and nodded toward the shed. Witnesses also claim he referenced a past family case, saying he “pulled a Rick,” a remark that police believe alludes to a relative convicted of murdering his girlfriend.
As officers took him into custody, Carrion allegedly expressed regret over confiding in someone, calling them a “snitch” and later blaming a police officer who had previously arrested him for domestic violence.
Jacob Workman, who frequently visits the area, said he was shocked by the arrest.
“Nothing seemed unusual—just a normal day for him,” Workman told ABC4. “Then, an hour later, we find out there’s a body in the shed.”
Carrion has been booked into the Utah County Jail on a first-degree felony murder charge. Court records indicate he has been denied bail as he awaits a pretrial hearing.
All individuals facing charges are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law .
