Happy Thursday, Utah! Winter made its presence felt today, with snowfall blanketing the northern half of the state and creating challenging travel conditions.
Morning Snow & Road Conditions
Early morning rain transitioned to snow before sunrise, leading to a slippery and slow-moving commute. Snow showers have continued throughout the day, particularly in Davis and Weber Counties as well as the Tooele Valley, where accumulations of 5 to 8 inches have been reported.
Weather Advisories & Storm Warnings
- A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the Wasatch Front, Cache Valley, and the central mountains until 5 p.m. Thursday.
- The Uinta Mountains will see lingering snow showers, keeping advisories in place until 11 p.m. tonight.
- A Winter Storm Warning for Davis and Weber Counties also remains active until 5 p.m. Thursday.
Thursday Night & Friday: Cold Temperatures & Black Ice Risk
As the storm system moves out of Utah overnight, temperatures will drop into the 20s, setting the stage for black ice development due to wet roads refreezing. Motorists should use caution Friday morning.
Skies will begin to clear on Friday, but chilly conditions will persist. Highs in northern Utah will reach the upper 30s to near 40°F, while southern Utah will see highs close to 60°F. A breezy northwest wind will add to the cool feel in the air.
Weekend Warm-Up & Sunshine
The weekend looks beautiful, with high pressure building across the region. Expect partly sunny skies and rising temperatures:
- Northern Utah: Highs reaching the mid-40s
- Southern Utah: Highs climbing to the mid to upper 60s
By early next week, temperatures will soar even further:
- Northern Utah: Mid-50s
- Southern Utah: Low to mid-70s (10-15°F above average in southwest Utah!)
Long-Range Outlook
Some weak storm systems could brush northern Utah’s mountains, but for now, high pressure is expected to dominate, keeping most storm activity to the north and northwest. The current pattern could shift as March approaches, bringing potential changes in weather activity.
