A 17-year-old is recovering in the hospital after being shot near Big Bear Park in Sandy on Thursday evening.
Police Respond to Reports of Gunfire
The Unified Police Department (UPD) received reports of shots fired around 5 p.m. and arrived at the scene to find shell casings, confirming that a shooting had occurred.
Witnesses reported seeing two vehicles speed away from the area shortly after the gunfire.
Victim Located at Hospital
Approximately 20 minutes later, authorities were alerted that a teen with a gunshot wound had arrived at a local hospital. Police confirmed that the victim had been shot in an extremity, and their injuries are not life-threatening.
Investigation Ongoing
UPD believes the incident was gang-related and is collaborating with other law enforcement agencies to track down potential suspects.
Officials have stated that this appears to be an isolated event and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
