Authorities in Mt. Pleasant are investigating a crash that led to the death of a 68-year-old man after his vehicle veered off the road and struck a fence near an auto parts store.
The incident occurred on January 5 at approximately 10 a.m. when officers from the Mt. Pleasant Police Department responded to a single-vehicle crash along US-89 near 900 South. Upon arrival, they discovered that a vehicle had left the roadway and crashed through a fence.
Inside the car, officers found the driver unresponsive, slumped over against the passenger-side door. Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Investigators noted that the crash occurred at a low speed and did not appear to have been forceful enough to cause fatal injuries. Based on preliminary findings, authorities suspect the driver may have suffered a medical emergency that led to the crash, which resulted in only minor damage.
The Utah Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate, but officials have stated that no foul play is suspected in the incident.
