A mix of rain and snow is expected to sweep across Utah starting Thursday afternoon, potentially creating hazardous driving conditions for commuters.
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) issued a “Road Weather Alert” Thursday morning in preparation for the multi-day storm that will impact highways across the state. The I-15 corridor is expected to experience the most significant effects, particularly north of Bountiful, where road conditions may deteriorate by evening. In contrast, areas south of Davis County are likely to see lighter snowfall with slightly warmer temperatures, preventing widespread snow accumulation on roads.
“Heavier snowfall is expected in the mountains, particularly on high-elevation routes, from Thursday into Friday,” UDOT warned. “By Thursday night, increasing temperatures will raise snow levels, leading to a rain/snow mix across many urban areas, including the Wasatch Front. However, conditions could shift back to all snow late Friday night as temperatures drop again.”
Strong Winds to Accompany Storm
In addition to precipitation, high winds are expected throughout Utah, with gusts between 30-40 mph statewide. I-80 in Tooele County could see stronger gusts reaching 40-50 mph, potentially affecting travel safety.
