Drive-By Shooting on New Year’s Eve Leads to Arrest in West Valley City
SALT LAKE CITY – On New Year’s Eve, police arrested a 27-year-old man, Anthony Junior Almaguer, after he allegedly shot at a family’s home multiple times. The incident occurred on December 31 when a family hosting a New Year’s Eve party reported that a black Tesla drove by their house three times, firing shots each time. At the time, 10 people, including four children, were inside the home. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Upon investigating the scene, West Valley police discovered seven shell casings and found damage to the home and three cars parked outside. Two victims identified Almaguer, claiming he was a family acquaintance who had been harassing them.

As officers continued their investigation, they learned that Almaguer had been involved in a hit-and-run incident. Officers from another department had apprehended him at the scene, where he showed signs of intoxication.
Almaguer has been charged with several felonies, including aggravated assault, possession of a dangerous weapon as a restricted person (since he is on parole), and driving under the influence. Authorities also noted that Almaguer’s actions demonstrated a “wanton disregard for the safety of the general public” by shooting at a home with children and other individuals inside.
