Massive Provo Construction Fire Destroys 3 Buildings, Causes $4.5M in Damage

A massive construction fire broke out in Provo early Saturday morning, destroying three apartment buildings and causing significant damage.

According to Provo Fire & Rescue, firefighters responded to reports of a second-alarm fire at 1620 South State Street just before 3 a.m. on February 8. When crews arrived, they found a four-story apartment complex under construction completely engulfed in flames.

The fire quickly spread to two additional structures under construction, bringing down a total of three buildings. A fourth building was at risk but was ultimately saved by fire crews, according to Provo Fire Captain Jeanie Atherton.

All three destroyed buildings were in the framing stage of construction, making them highly flammable. The estimated damage cost is approximately $4.5 million.

Power Outages and Emergency Response

The blaze also damaged power lines, causing outages in parts of Provo. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Firefighters from Springville and Mapleton assisted in battling the fire, with around 30 firefighters working at the scene.

Officials have not yet released further details on the cause of the fire.
