A teenager was taken into custody after causing mayhem inside a Salt Lake City convenience store, throwing items, damaging property, and resisting arrest, according to police.
Authorities responded to a call early Tuesday morning about a disturbance at a store near 300 East 400 South. When officers arrived, they reviewed surveillance footage showing the suspect—identified as 19-year-old Salman Yusef—hurling food and store displays across the shop. He also attempted to remove or destroy the card payment system, while witnesses reported that he had jumped behind the counter and threatened an employee.
Before the convenience store incident, Yusef had allegedly assaulted a woman by punching her in the head. Witnesses also told police he ran in front of a UTA transport van before sprinting across the street and entering the store.
When officers attempted to take him into custody, Yusef resisted and kicked at them. Once arrested, he reportedly admitted to possessing around $100 worth of “spice” (synthetic marijuana) and $50 worth of methamphetamine. He told police he had planned to sell the spice while using some of the meth himself.
Yusef, a U.S. citizen, was booked into jail and is facing multiple charges, including felony commercial obstruction, assault by a prisoner, possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, resisting arrest, criminal trespassing, disorderly conduct, intoxication, and criminal mischief.
