Madsen Brothers Shine as Utes Defeat Colorado 72-59

Gabe Madsen led Utah with 17 points, while Lawson Lovering contributed 12 as the Utes defeated Colorado 72-59 on Wednesday night, keeping the Buffaloes winless in Big 12 play.

Ezra Ausar and Mason Madsen, coming off the bench, each added 10 points for Utah (13-9, 5-6 Big 12). Colorado (9-13, 0-11) saw Javon Ruffin lead the team with 13 points, while Bangot Dak chipped in 11.

Utah took control early, holding a 32-20 lead at halftime. However, Colorado responded in the second half, cutting the deficit to 45-42 behind a strong stretch from Dak, who scored nine points during a 22-10 Buffaloes run. Assane Diop then sank two free throws to bring Colorado within two at 48-46 with 8:01 remaining.

Madsen hit a key three-pointer with just over four minutes left, pushing Utah ahead 55-50. From there, the Utes finished strong, closing the game on a 20-9 run to secure the win.

Utah has now won five of its last eight, while Colorado remains on an 11-game losing streak. With nine games left in the season, the Buffaloes face a tough schedule, including five matchups against Top 25 teams.

Colorado has only finished a conference season winless once before, going 0-14 in the 1985-86 Big 8 season.

Up next, Utah will travel to West Virginia to take on the Mountaineers on Saturday.
