Record Heat Forces Temporary Closure of Midway Ice Castles in Utah

Unseasonably warm temperatures in early February have led to a temporary closure of the Midway Ice Castles, leaving visitors eager for their return.

“Utah’s Ice Castles are taking a short hiatus as they recover from an unexpected bout of warm-weather blues,” said Amanda Roseth, a spokesperson for the attraction.

The closure comes as Utah experiences an unusual heat wave, with temperatures soaring 20 to 25 degrees above the seasonal average. Meteorologist Nate Larsen noted that Salt Lake City has broken multiple temperature records in both daytime highs and overnight lows.

To protect the integrity of the ice structures, the Ice Castles will remain closed from Feb. 3 to Feb. 10. Roseth reassured visitors that the attraction will reopen soon.

“Colder weather is on the horizon, and with it, the Ice Castles will be restored to their full frozen splendor,” she said. “We appreciate everyone’s patience as we wait for winter to do its work.”

The Midway Ice Castles debuted this season on Jan. 15, later than usual due to earlier weather challenges. For updates on reopening, visitors can check the Ice Castles’ official website.
