March Against ‘Invaders’ Held by Extremist Group Near Herriman City Hall

On Saturday, February 1, a protest organized by an extremist group took place near Herriman City Hall. The protesters, holding signs that read “Deport Invaders” and “Keep America American,” voiced their opposition to what they described as “invaders” at the demonstration.

Footage captured by a viewer of ABC4 revealed the protesters walking with a large banner, displaying several flags. Among them were the Utah state flag, the Betsy Ross flag, and what appeared to be the logo of the white supremacist group Patriot Front. The group later took credit for the protest, stating on their website that the rally was held in response to “cartel violence in Utah,” claiming that Herriman has been impacted by violence linked to cartels crossing the southern border.

City officials were aware of the gathering, and a spokesperson from Herriman confirmed the protest’s peaceful nature. Jon LaFollette, representing Herriman City, told ABC4, “To our knowledge, it remained peaceful and no illegal activity occurred.”

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) describes Patriot Front as a white nationalist group founded in 2017, following a split from a now-defunct extremist organization. The group’s emblem, a fasces (a bundle of sticks with an axe, originally a symbol of fascism), surrounded by 13 stars, represents what they claim to be America’s “revolutionary tradition.”

According to the ADL, Patriot Front has been associated with a history of antisemitic, anti-LGBTQ+, pro-life, and anti-immigration actions. In 2023, the group was responsible for distributing 60% of white supremacist propaganda in the United States. The ADL notes that the group mandates its members to actively spread its messages or risk expulsion.

The protest in Herriman is believed to have been a “flash demonstration,” a quick, temporary event intended for photo and video content, which the group can later use for online distribution.
